One thing I have found plaguing my lectures is the attention-leaching verbal pauses, ums and uhs, that swarm in at the moments when I have a senior moment or feel uncomfortable with silence. However, I know that such verbal pauses can be very distracting. Therefore, I thought I’d share a list of tips from lifehack.org. This list consists of 12 tips to help with this.

  2. Get a Counter - If your giving an important speech, get a friend to count the amount of times you utter an um or ah. Keeping numbers makes you highly aware of when your using these speech-killers.
